Alresford Museum

Relax and take a trip back in time

Home Movies and Professional Movies

The Museum is trying to acquire old home movies or even professional films relating to Alresford and the surrounding villages. If you have any such items please think of us. We will happily have them digistised and arrange for them to be stored for posterity at Hampshire Record Office where they have storage facilities that will prevent them deteriorating further. However, we will happily return them if you wish.

So far we only have a few clips which are listed below but if you csn help with more material please contact Roy Gentry, 01962 773185 if you have anything that might be of potential interest.

Video of 1957 Carnival

This video has been transferred from a home movie of the 1957 Alresford Carnival. Very few people had home movie cameras in the fifties and we are extremely fortunate that it has survived and that it has been donated to the Museum. The original film has now been lodged with the Hampshire Records Office for safe-keeping.

Our Photographic Collection

We are working closely with Hampshire Record Office (HRO) in making photographs of Alresford's people and places available to the public.

HRO has the facilities to store photographs, negatives and home-movie films that are secure and prevent further deterioration. What they don't have is the resources to scan these items and make them easily available for general viewing. This is where we come in and we have now scanned HRO's collection of photographic negatives and they are available in the Photo Gallery of this web site. We also assist HRO in identifying people and places in the photographs.

Any new photographic material material that is given to us is scanned, logged (with an HRO identity number), where possible identified, and then lodged with HRO. The scanned image is then loaded onto this web site.
